UNIVERSITY COURSE: LEADERSHIP AND ORGANIZATIONAL CHANGE

We offer specially designed courses which are both challenging and interactive. All students take Leadership and Organizational Change. The course explores the dynamic environment modern-day leaders must navigate and the role of transformational leadership. The course will train students to apply the theories and tactics of transformational leadership to successfully achieve a change project in whatever organization, business, or community project he/she is involved in. The course is complemented by experiential activities and guest speakers.

Students also select (1) elective from the following choices:

  • Social Entrepreneurship
  • Politics of Developing Areas

All courses are upper-division, taught in English, and fully accredited. Transcripts are issued by the University of Monterrey (UDEM). Each course is worth 3 US/6 ECTS semester credits which can be transferred upon approval from the student's home university.

Students work on several group projects during the Organizational Leadership Course.

CULTURAL ACTIVITIES , FIELD TRIPS AND COMMUNITY SERVICE

The classes are complemented by afternoon tours, speakers, and site visits. Field trips include the Panama Canal, City of Knowledge, and United Nations Information Centre. During a Saturday trip, students traveled to the Panamanian rainforest to visit the Embera indigenous community. Students met with the community leader who shared how leadership is exercised in this community, the role that must be met, what the community expects of a leader and leadership as practiced in this indigenous community. This experience helped to sensitize GLP participants on the reality experienced by indigenous communities not only in Panama but in the world and learn how leadership is exercised within a community.

In order to better understand the socioeconomic issues that face members of the community, students also participate in a community service activity. The 2010 community service project allowed students to apply their leadership knowledge by creating a training workshop for volunteers of "Movimento Nueva Generacion."

Visit to United Nations Information Centre in the City of Knowledge. Students and Faculty meet with the Director, Jiesselinde Gonzalez.
